Moscow Transport will extend its Face Pay biometric fare payment option to 200 turnstiles, including at all stations of the Moscow Central Circle, an urban rail line, according to a press release.

A survey among the Face Pay users revealed 88% of users prefer this option to other payment methods, Maksim Liksutov, Moscow deputy mayor, said in the press release.

Users cited the following benefits: no need to carry a bank card (44%), innovativeness (42%), no need to stand in line to ticket offices or vending machines (38%) and speed (37%).

The majority of stations have one or two turnstiles equipped with the Face Pay fare payment option, although some stations have more in response to user requests. Some have as many as six.

The service will also become available for regular river transport this year and on the Aeroexpress railway connection between city airports and railway terminals.

All the payment data is handled exclusively by a Russian bank.

The city is considering offering season passes with the biometric payment option to corporate clients, whereby companies could purchase 30-, 90- or 365-day passes for their employees.

At present, more than 170,000 users are registered in the Face Pay system.
