A young man identified as Segun Omoalaba has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Amotekun Corps for being in possession of firearms and 151 wraps of Indian hemp.
DAILY POST learnt that the suspect was arrested at about 9pm on Thursday when a team of Amotekun Corps was patrolling the Moshood Abiola Way in the Abeokuta metropolis.
The operatives were attracted to a scene where a man was being pursued by some members of the public at Edward Junction, Leme, Abiola way, Abeokuta.
Ogun Amotekun Commander, David Akinremi, said the operatives immediately swung into action and arrested Omoalaba, “who had earlier robbed a POS operator, one Wahab Sadiat of the sum of 420,000, a POS machine and other personal belongings.”
Akinremi hinted that the suspect was subsequently arrested and all the stolen items, including the cash, recovered from him.
However, “his accomplice, who was on their getaway unregistered motorcycle, escaped from the scene,” DAILY POST learnt.
“On interrogation, he admitted committing the crime and that he came with a member of his criminal gang, name withheld, who escaped with the unregistered motorcycle.
“The suspect initially gave his name as Sulaiman Abu Musa and that he reside in Oke-Sokori, Abeokuta but his real name was later discovered to be Omoalaba Segun.
“When a search was conducted in his house, 151 wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian Hemp were recovered.
“Meanwhile, the preliminary enquiry revealed that the suspect, based on his confession, is a member of Eiye Cult Group, which has been involved in violent cult killings in the metropolis in recent times.
“The suspect is being processed for formal hand over to the State Police Command for a follow-up investigation and prosecution.
“The Corps will, however, continue to trail the escaped accomplice as well as other members of his cult group whose names he has revealed to us,” Akinremi explained.
